U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke at BICG Conference via video
At the annual conference of the Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance (BICG) held on 18 March in Vilnius, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian business leaders and government sector decision-makers discussed major problems affecting the corporate governance in the Baltic Region.
The Conference participants were addressed via video by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who emphasized remarkable transformation of the Baltic Region over the past two decades. The Secretary of State shared the belief that transparent corporate governance was essential to stable finance markets and sustainable economic grow because it prevented corruption.
”As you continue to grow stronger economies and increase opportunity, please know that the United States stands with you”, said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
At the Conference, Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius and Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis were given awards for their annual reviews of state-owned commercial assets.
Other speakers at the Conference were Sten Scheibye, Chairman of Novo Nordisk (Denmark); Bjorn Sprangere, Chairman of LKAB (Sweden); Morten Kallevig, Deputy Director General of the Ownership Department, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Norway); and Peter Kastrup-Misir, Partner of Company-Plus (Denmark). The Conference was moderated by Christian Engelsen of the Institute for Corporate Governance in Denmark.
The Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance (BICG) is a non-profit, non-government initiative set up to raise awareness of good corporate governance in the Baltic Region. The initiative was launched by a group of business partners, such as Bernotas & Dominas GLIMSTEDT, Bonniers Business Press (Verslo žinios, Dienas Bizness and Äripäev), Ernst & Young, ISM University, NASDAQ OMX Baltic Stock Exchanges and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.
