Last week, Kristian Kaas Mortensen, President of the Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance (BICG), and business delegations from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia closed up the NASDAQ Stock Market Trading Session in New York City’s Time Square.
BICG was invited to attend this event as an internationally recognised driver of best practice corporate governance development in the Baltic region. During the occasion, the President of BICG expressed great appreciation for sharing of corporate governance practices by US corporations.
“During our visit to New York, we have received warm friendship and hospitality not only from NASDAQ OMX bus as well from companies such as Thompson Reuters, Deloitte, Microsoft, Federal Reserve Bank and Yale University. We hope that our delegates will not only bring home great memories and knowledge but as well have left behind the clear message that the Baltic States are open for business with our new friends here in New York”, said Mr Mortensen.
During the visit to the United States, the delegation of 30 business leaders positively assessed this significant to BICG event and an opportunity to strengthen US-Baltic trade and investment relationships.
“As a member and founder of BICG, our Law Firm highly values its doings and achievements. We hope that BICG will continue its mission to raise awareness of good corporate governance and will show the benefit that good corporate governance practices may bring to the Baltic region”, said Gediminas Dominas, Managing Partner of Bernotas & Dominas GLIMSTEDT.
“One of the purposes of our visit was to show investment opportunities and potentials in the Baltic region, to communicate the message that we seek transparency and that such initiatives as BICG mark only the beginning”, said Mindaugas Glodas, CEO of Microsoft Lithuania.
The Opening and Closing Bell ceremonies at the NASDAQ Market Site in New York City’s Time Square take place every day. In 2010, the NASDAQ Stock Market Trading Session was opened by Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius during his visit to the United States. The Opening or Closing Bell ceremonies at the NASDAQ Market Site have served as a platform for such world-renowned companies as Google, Starbucks, Microsoft, UNICEF, CNBC and some others to celebrate their corporate events. The NASDAQ Stock Market Opening or Closing Bell has been rung by many famous people – Richard Branson, Larry King, Arnold Schwarzenegger and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton among them.
